Moment Collection: Cinematic Anthropology of Urban Tenderness or “What South African ceremonies have to do with Czech steel workers and New York at dawn.” (via Brain Pickings)

October 17, 2011 //

Brain Pickings describes Mood Collection as such:
It “isn’t a documentary, nor is it fictional film. Rather, it’s part photographic research project, part cultural anthropology of urban tenderness.
The brainchild of French director Paul Mignot, the project captures rare, vulnerable moments in the lives of four global cities. From dawn in New York to a baptism in Johannesburg to the near-ghost of a Czech metal factory, Mood Collection steals an unexpected glimpse of the raw, private humanity of cities through breathtaking cinematography and thoughtful direction.”

Paul Mignot, creator of the Mood Collection describes it as such:
“This collection was born from the need to get carried away by the coincidences and the follies of life, or simply to see the other with sincerity and honesty, in a moment without promise, without lies, just picking up a message as silent as it is.” ~ Paul Mignot (translated from French)

Ok guys….I cannot tell you how excited I am to have found this post. This is an incredible exhibition of Cyprien Gaillard’s series “Geographical Analogieson” which my husband and I caught at the Modern Art Museum in Washington D.C. a couple of months ago. It is now on show at the Centre Pompidou until January 9th…Apparently Gaillard has also been awarded the Duchamp Prize!

Check out more about the exhibition and see some more images HERE!

Sub City Paris – It’s a short film – a visual poem – about that moment when you emerge from the subway and find yourself in a new and sometimes unexpected world.

September 25, 2011 //

Hauntingly beautiful….

“Three years ago in Paris I got out of a “metro” train at La Concorde, and saw suddenly a beautiful face… I could not find any words that seemed to me worthy, or as lovely as that sudden emotion.” – Ezra Pound

This film film by Sarah Klein and Tom Mason is the continuation of a series that explores that moment of uncertainty and magic that happens when you emerge from the depths of the subway system.
